Imperata Red Baron
Imperata Red Baron. Ornamental grass that forms small colonies producing sharply pointed grassy striking colour leaves. They turn a bright red in early summer and remain so until autumn. This is unique in the world of ornamental grasses. Flowers clusters appear in late summer having a silvery white colour. No fruit is produced. One caution about this plant. Height x Spread: 12 to 18 in. x about 12 in.
Plant in moist fertile well drained soil. Full sun, Frost Hardy.
General Ornamental Grass Planting care
- Water the pot thoroughly and allow to drain fully.
- Dig a hole twice the size of the pot being planted and fork over the base. Adding some planting compost.
- Remove the pot gently, if well rooted cut off the pot.
- Ensure that the top of the Root ball is level with the surrounding soil.
- Replace the remaining soil and heel in, water the area thoroughly.
- Water regular until established.
- Apply some general fertiliser every spring.
