 Thirty years, ago Robert McLaren was a time-served electrician with a good job and a secure future. Robert and his wife Ruth gave it all up to indulge a passion for growing plants and rented a small holding at Inchinnan in Renfrewshire, to start a nursery. After operating the Nursery for two seasons he purchased a 2.5 acre nursery in Ardrossan.

| Today he and his family have sold the Ardrossan nursery and own one of the biggest intensive nurseries in Scotland, Operated by himself and three daughters Debbie, Louise and Sandra supplying garden centres, garden sections of DIY stores, landscape gardeners, Charities, Golf courses, the public and architects.  
The site outside Lugton where we are now situated was bought in 1980, it was a bare un-drained field. We now extend to 50 acres, operating on 25 and counting, 15 of which are under glass or poly-tunnel. We are very much a family business and like to solve problems as we come to them, we erect our own tunnels and we continuously develop and expand to suit growth and demand.    
With the demand for exotic and more unusual varieties increasing McLarens Nurseries carry as broad a range of plants and trees as possible. Our catalogue carries many varieties of Shrubs, Roses, Alpines & Heathers, Herbaceous & Perennial, Ornamental Grasses, Azalea, Rhododendrons, Conifer, Trees, Fruit Trees, Bedding, Vegetables and Other unusual exotic plants. This allows us to empower the creativity and imagination of our customers. We grow many varieties in house and the more exotic varieties are imported from the best European suppliers. | |
